Processing Times

A passport will not be issued immediately.  The completed application will be sent from the County Clerk’s Office (or from a Post Office) to  the US Department of State Passport Services office.

A ROUTINE passport application may take up to 12 weeks for processing and up to 6 weeks for mailing, for a total of up to 18 weeks.  This should be taken into consideration as travel plans are made.  For the most up-to-date processing times, please refer to travel.state.gov.

EXPEDITE service can take up to 6 weeks processing plus up to 6 weeks for mailing, for a total of up to 12 weeks.

If you need a passport sooner than the times listed above, you may hire a third party passport courier.  An internet search can help you identify passport couriers.  You will still need to apply in person and have your passport application assembled and sealed at the Davidson County Clerk’s Main Office or at any Passport Acceptance Agency.

Applicants traveling in the next 72 hours (3 business days) may go to: travel.state.gov.
